Tallinn, Estonia — advisory for leadership teams

Strategic technology leadership for organisations that need change, clarity and execution.

I work with companies facing challenging business and technology problems  the kind that sit between departments and rarely have a clean owner. Together we scale operations, sharpen decision-making, and build structures where capable teams can actually perform.

01About Martin

I am at my best when an organization needs change — not maintenance.

Engineer of Questions.

Good decisions rely on the right questions. My first contribution is to ask challenging questions.

My work sits where people, process and technology meet — normally at the point where they have stopped agreeing with each other. Steady systems rarely need me. Organisations in the middle of growth, restructuring or a transformation they have not fully defined do.

I lead calmly under pressure and communicate straightforwardly. If a plan is unrealistic, if a deadline is unattainable, or if a team is being asked to deliver something the structure cannot support, I will say so early and propose what to do instead.

I solve problems by asking questions until the real one appears, then building clarity around it: who decides, what it costs, what it depends on, and what happens if we are wrong. Once that is shared across the leadership team, execution tends to look after itself.

02Advisory engagements

Six ways I work with leadership teams.

01

Strategic Technology Leadership

Executive-level ownership of the technology agenda: priorities, roadmap, budget and delivery cadence tied to the business plan rather than to a tooling wish list.

A technology direction the board can read, fund and hold accountable.

02

Digital Transformation Advisory

Transformation sequenced so it pays for itself: what to modernise first, what to leave alone, and how to keep the business running while the change happens.

Ambiguity turned into an executable, financially defensible plan.

03

Operating Model & Team Scaling

Designing structures, roles, ownership and interfaces that hold as headcount and volume grow — including hiring plans and leadership layers that actually work.

Growth absorbed without the organisation quietly grinding down.

04

Change Management & Organisational Clarity

Making change legible to the people delivering it. Communication, decision rights, and the unglamorous follow-through that determines whether change sticks.

Fewer parallel realities, less friction, faster execution.

05

Technology–Business Alignment

Translating in both directions between leadership and engineering, so investment decisions rest on operational and financial context instead of assumption.

IT spend and strategic goals pointing in the same direction.

06

Leadership Sparring for Complex Decisions

A confidential thinking partner for CEOs, CIOs and COOs facing decisions with incomplete information, competing interests and real consequences.

Better questions before the decision, fewer surprises after it.

03Why leaders work with me

Judgement, not frameworks.

What clients tend to value is less the method and more how the work feels while it is happening: unhurried, honest, and grounded in the numbers.

Calm under pressure

Incidents, restructurings and hard conversations get the same steady handling. Pace comes from clarity, not from urgency theatre.

Comfortable in the mess

Undefined scope, contested ownership, legacy nobody wants to touch — this is where the work usually starts, and where I am most useful.

Straightforward communication

Plain language with boards and with engineers. If something is not going to work, you hear it early rather than in a post-mortem.

Financially informed thinking

Decisions framed in cost, risk, capacity and return — the terms leadership teams are accountable for.

Connecting the whole system

People, process, technology and commercial goals treated as one system, because that is how they fail and how they improve.

Built and scaled real teams

Hands-on experience building organizations in a regulated, operationally demanding environment — not a template borrowed from a case study.

04When to bring me in

The situations where an outside perspective pays for itself.

  • 01Your company is growing fast and the structure that got you here no longer holds.
  • 02Technology and business priorities have drifted apart, and nobody can say precisely when.
  • 03A leadership team needs clarity and a shared picture before committing to a major decision.
  • 04You are restructuring, scaling or modernising operations and want the sequence right.
  • 05The teams are capable, but friction between them is slowing execution.
  • 06You need an interim-style strategic advisor without hiring a full-time executive.
